How to avoid oak barrels leaking water or wine?

New barrels usually need to be “pre-wetted” before use, that is, fill the barrel with water and soak it for a period of time to allow the wood to swell and ensure the sealing of the barrel. After pre-wetting, the barrel usually forms a seal automatically and will no longer leak.
